Chinatown has many shophouses,some in ruin,most in use,a few done up.
CONCUBINE STREET is where the rich used to keep their mistresses,it is about to get paving and 4 houses are being remodelled as a hotel-great boutique/backpacker tourism potential.also between historical civic buidings and great restaurant area.

IPOH-MALAY WEDDING 12-11-2011

 After the station we crossed the street to townhallwhere we were invited to a malay wedding reception.we were given a gift each and they insisted we sit and eat-lovely buffet meal,the guard of honour wore white naval uniforms.nearby Lumut is main naval base for malaysia.most of the female guests wore colourful muslim attire.the bride and bridegroom made an attractive couple

The hotel was the upper floor and lower right ground floor but is closed for renovation
Lower left ground floor is railway station.at rear are platforms with  large modern roof


 We arrived at station hotel and met our enthusiastic guide=rajah.as too wet to walk heritage tour,we drove to PERAK TONG CAVE TEMPLE.Founded 1926 by buddhist monk.very impressive.large caverns,with buddhas and other statues,and lots of cave paintings,some exquisite.walked up many stairs to top of caves inside,then continued up steep outside stairs to summit of limestone hill.

IPOH PETSHOP 11-11-2011

 Our 8y.o cockpit chartplotter is playing up so kerry opened up to try and find problem.will probably need a new onewe have a backup nav program called c-maps on the toughbook computer..
 we then headed off to IPOH.Ipoh became very rich city in 1870's due to tin mining.the chinese miners persuaded the malay sultan to invite the britisg to provide law and order.after a big fire the british supervised the building of lovely civic buildings,whichhave  survived.along with numerous chinese shophouses.hence the heritage walk-every saturday.
we got a taxi to lumut bus station,then public bus(8rm-2 hours)to ipoh.checked at tourism office if free walk still on=yes,but now 20rm.booked hotel=dragon and phoenix(60rm).

 after showers we headed out to dinner.

on the way we stopped at a petshop which sold puppies and kittens but also many snakes,lizards,mascaw parrots,a naked cat,a strange tortoise ,iguanas and a monkey

we bypassed muslim foodarea as no beer,and headed for chinese area-alive nightmarket,open meal,then a new cafe for ipoh coffee,and a pomelo-also an ipoh speciality

PANGKOR ISLAND MARINA 10nov11



 beautiful morning at dawn motoring out of berman river at 8 knots with current.then motor/motor sail,with positive current,till near marina,between pangkor island and mainland.
now in perak state.we do a tour of island next monday.
wait for enoughh tide to get over sandbar,into marina.usual hooh up power,empty 4 jerrycans diesel into tanks,then put up shadecovers.new unfinnished marina complex with hardstand area(we'll being putting haven on hardstand at rebok marina,langkawi,next month.

then upstairs for sundowners-lots of cruisers.we also had nasi goreng for dinner(large,tasty and $2)
