TRIP PLANNING 11-08-2011

A day off today.time for early morning photography, drinking local tea, doing trip planning, emails, blog, and washing clothes.we have really enjoyed lewoleba and lembata.

FISHING-LEWOLEBA 11-08-2011

Early morning dinghy ride on glassy water-lots of boats out fishing-this one had 14 men slowly pulling in net.lots of little fish.waiting boats get first buy.all very colourful, and locals friendly.then back along lewoleba waterfront with stilt houses and smaller wooden boats.

HAVING A WHALE OF A TIME 10/08/2011

2 hour mitsubishi bus over bumpy mountain road to LAMELERA whaling village on lembata south coast.the beach has about thatched sheds housing the colourful traditional wooden whaling boats. On the beach was this freshly killed whale.all thru the village, hangig up are racks of whale blubber, with drains to collect the oil,and racks of drying meat-dark=whale,lighter=shark.also drying were various tail & ,fins.fascinating and well worth the rough trip over and back.back in lewoleba we went to markets for fresh tomatos, cucumbers, greens, and bought a box of bintang.
